LETTER: Sooke must preserve Murray Road park

I am asking Sooke council to please say no to rezoning the park at 2008 Murray Rd. and leave it as a designated park per our OCP.

This little park with its lovely, tall and old trees provides a welcome green space in the midst of our rapidly densifying town centre. It's probably going to be the only green space once all the building in that area is complete. It's on the Seawalk route and can be used as stop-off for walkers and dog walkers, for people working downtown to have lunch or meet, and for families to take their children to play. The people moving into the dense housing planned for the nearby area will need a green space. It would be really nice to see some benches and picnic tables and maybe a few swings.

Say no to rezoning this park, please. Isn't it the responsibility of council to preserve community parks and public spaces?
