The Victoria Grizzlies are coming home, on the brink of elimination.

On Thursday night (April 25), the team lost 3-2 to the Surrey Eagles in game five of their best-of-seven second round BCHL series. With the win, the Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the series.

After a scoreless first period, Surrey struck first at the 7:18 mark of the second frame when Savek Brar found the back of the net for the first time these playoffs to make it 1-0. That lead only lasted 42 seconds as Reegan Hiscock responded with his third of the postseason to tie the game.

It remained tied 1-1 until there was just 3:47 left in the game when Eagles forward Aaron Schwartz scored his fifth goal of the playoffs to give Surrey the 2-1 lead.

Nearly two minutes later, Zachary Wagnon scored to make it 3-1 Surrey.

Hiscock found the back of the net for the second time in the game with 41 seconds left but that’s as close as Victoria would come, falling 3-2.

Oliver Auyeung-Ashton made 34 saves in the loss for the Grizzlies.

With the loss, Victoria’s season is on the line on Saturday night when the series shifts back to The Q Centre for game six. If the Grizzlies lose, their season is over but if they win, game seven will go Monday night (April 29) back in Surrey.

Puck drop for game six is at 6 p.m.
