The District of Sooke is stepping up to pave over a couple’s concerns about how work on Church Road affected their property.

Jim Gerrie said he’s glad to see complaints on how the ongoing work affects access to their Church Road home and the glare from a new street light are being addressed.

“It’s good to see the district take action when concerns are brought forward,” Gerrie said.

The district confirmed that stairs are being added at the existing property boundary to the multi-use trail so that their accessibility remains comparable pre and post-project.

A light shield is being installed to direct light away from nearby windows, making reasonable efforts to mitigate potential disturbances.

“It’s great to hear about Mr. Gerrie’s expression of appreciation to Sooke’s CAO, Raechel Gray, and manager of engineering and infrastructure, Raphiel Mattson, for their dedicated efforts in addressing the concerns,” Christian Moog, communication co-ordinator said in reference to Gerrie’s letter to the editor in the Sooke News Mirror.

Gray and Mattson were able to communicate the specifics of what could be done to assist the residents, Moog noted.

“We remain committed to ongoing collaboration with residents and stakeholders to address concerns and implement necessary improvements whenever possible. It is through this collaborative effort that we can ensure the continued enhancement of our community’s infrastructure and quality of life.”

Moog encourages residents to connect with staff, adding that “our team is committed to listening and being responsive as best as resources allow.”
